After two decades of serving the heart of Marpole, the Samuel family bids a grateful goodbye as Mirchi passes to new hands.
To our dearest Mirchi family, neighbours, and friends,
If these walls could talk, they would speak in the fragrant aromas of cumin and coriander, the sizzle of the tawa, and the warm hum of conversations shared over meals that became memories. For 21 wonderfully fulfilling years, Mirchi Restaurant has been more than just an eatery; it has been our family’s home, and you—our customers and community—have been our extended family.
It is with a heart full of gratitude and a touch of bittersweet emotion that we announce the closing of this cherished chapter. My father, Joseph Samuel—the heart, soul, and chef behind Mirchi—will be handing the reins over to new ownership. His final day in the kitchen, crafting the dishes you’ve loved, will be Friday, November 28th, 2025.
This journey began over two decades ago when my father and mother opened the doors—and their hearts—to the Marpole community. You welcomed them with open arms and embraced the savoury, intoxicating flavours of Pakistani-Indian cuisine, making Mirchi a beloved neighbourhood mainstay.
After the tragic loss of my mother in 2011, my father carried on alone, infusing every meal with not just spice and love, but with her gentle spirit. Every dish served was a testament to their shared dream and a thank you to the community that helped us carry on.
We’ve watched Marpole transform around us, blossoming into the trendy, vibrant hub it is today. Through the rise of modern architecture and hip new eateries, Mirchi remained a constant—a humble, family-run spot where the recipes were timeless and the welcome was always warm. We are immensely proud of the role we played, weaving our Pakistani-Canadian heritage into the very fabric of South Granville.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Thank you for the countless dinners, the lunchtime rushes, the celebrations, and the quiet cups of chai. Thank you for becoming life-long friends. The connections we’ve made here have been the true reward.
As we close this door, we carry with us a lifetime of fond memories and the profound satisfaction of having served you. While the Mirchi you know will be changing, we hope the new ownership will bring their own joy to this special space.
Please come by before November 28th to share one more meal, a story, or simply a goodbye. We would love to see you.
With immense love and gratitude,
Jennifer D’Souza
On behalf of Joseph Samuel and the entire Mirchi Restaurant family
