For the second summer in a row, the busy arterial road connecting Marpole and south Vancouver to UBC will be closed to through traffic from May to early September.
Southwest Marine Drive is a key link between UBC, the University Endowment Lands, commercial centres, the airport, provincial highways, and the regional road network. This busy route is used by people cycling and driving trucks, buses, and private vehicles.
Metro Vancouver and the City of Vancouver will be undertaking the completion of two large road construction projects that were partially completed last summer.
Metro Vancouver will be upgrading the existing sewer/wastewater pipe system from MacDonald St. to Camosun.
The City of Vancouver will then resurface the roadway, and upgrade the bikeway to improve the safety and comfort of people cycling.
The bicycle and road upgrades between Granville St. to MacDonald St. were completed last summer. Some traffic will be allowed on that completed stretch this year.
This will include local traffic access for people living along the route.
More details will be posted on marpoleonline.com as they become available. Please ensure that your customers, clients and patients are aware of the possibility of traffic delays throughout the west side of Vancouver and our community during the summer months.
